Danielle Mathenia is our parent support expert and educational/medical advocate at Dawson Neurobehavioral Group. We believe strongly that supporting and learning to advocate for your child is a marathon and not a sprint, and we want all families to have ongoing support and resources as an extenuation of their child’s evaluation. Danielle remains a member of every child’s village here at DNG to provide ongoing support, education and empowerment to all of our parents along this marathon. Danielle has devoted over 15 years to serving as a passionate and talented educational and medical advocate, specializing in parent education, empowerment and the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. Danielle has a unique background with her vision and passions originally set on veterinary medicine. She spent six years as a veterinary technician, including surgical support and penguin and sting ray care. She attended Texas A&M University, majoring in biology, intending to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine, when just shy of graduation, her journey took a turn when she became a parent to children with significant educational and medical needs. Like many of the parents with whom she works, Danielle was led on a new journey she never anticipated. She has funneled her passions and expertise in animal medicine to the pediatric, adolescent and young adult world.
Danielle has significant expertise in various learning disabilities, ADHD, executive function deficits, socio-emotional challenges, and sensory processing dysfunction. She has expert knowledge in Dyslexia, including evidence based educational programming, and is trained in the Wilson Reading System. Danielle’s passion lies in providing parent coaching and support for children, adolescents and young adults with medical and learning disabilities, leveraging her unique insights and expertise to empower families navigating these challenges. Additionally, she maintains a special interest in headache diagnosis and management, further enhancing her ability to offer holistic support to our patients. Through her dedication and compassionate approach, Danielle strives to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families facing similar journeys.
